I purchased a VW Jetta 2011 with 15,000 and the morning after I bough it stopped while I was driving it, as it did 6 randomly times after that. The 1 time I took it to the dealer but as there were no codes shown they gave it back to us (not trusting what I was saying) The 2nd time they said Oh! it must be the gas pump, they replaced it.

The 2011 models are said to be cheaper (VW trying to gain market share) so some might go for new over used. I think if you drive a lot (long distances!) a TDI makes sense, otherwise go for the gasser.

The quality of VW and their intent to be in the same class as Honda and Toyota is evident to me at least in the quality of the Jetta. I had 2011 Jetta TDI/DSG Sunroof now have Passat SE auto/ 2.5 sunroof. Just one satisfied owner throwing out some of my opinions which I hope helps.

With the 6-speed of course. But unless VW has changed their manual tranny supplier I think you will be getting the same crappy south American made manual as I have in my Jetta. Only it will have an extra gear. The only thing I really hate about my Jetta is the 5 speed. It was just barely grinding the 2nd gear synchro the DAY I PICKED IT UP from VW.

Rear brakes do wear first on all VW models except Touaregs. If you've ever had to make an emergency stop the nose of the car does not dive to the ground. Rear brake calipers compress first and with greater force to prevent nose dive braking. 53K for rears is amazing! I've seen as low as 15K and as high as 85K for the first set of rears on a Jetta.
