2025年1月21日 · Although Highway 1 remains closed 40 miles south of Carmel due to the Regent’s Slide, travelers from northern California are still able to visit the Big Sur coast and its historic bridges, waterfalls, restaurants, and lodging amenities.

The Big Sur Chamber of Commerce was founded just over 50 years ago by Coast Gallery Owner, Gary Koeppel, and several other local business leaders to represent the interests of the Big Sur business community.

Enjoy the State Parks or the privately owned campgrounds, both located throughout Big Sur. Streamside camping is available in the Big Sur Valley and oceanview, bluff camping is available in the southern end of Big Sur.

Big Sur is located along Scenic Highway One approximately 150 miles south of San Francisco and 300 miles north of Los Angeles. Historically, the name Big Sur, was derived from that unexplored and unmapped wilderness area which lays along the coast south of Monterey.

Big Sur offers several different beachcombing opportunities. View the spectacular Big Sur coastline from the cliffs or walk along the shoreline. Pfeiffer Beach has great access and great sunset viewings.
