Anigozanthos 'Big Red' (Large Red Kangaroo Paw) - An evergreen perennial that grows to 4 to 6 feet tall by 2 to 3 feet wide with fuzzy rich red flowers that look like small claws that rise high above the iris-like foliage from spring through fall (nearly year round along coast).

This Kangaroo Paw has the largest individual flowers of the genus, with the orange to red flowers held above the foliage in an unbranched inflorescence. Although more tolerant of wetter soils than most other Kangaroo Paws and listed as long lived in the wild, A. preissii is listed as difficult to maintain in cultivation.

Anigozanthos rufus is known to tolerate moderate frosts and a wider range of soils than other Kangaroo Paws but does require good drainage and is susceptible to Ink Disease. A great small to midsize kangaroo paw that has attractive flowers and attracts hummingbirds.
