Sproul Plaza (pronounced [spraʊɫ]) is one center of student activity at the University of California, Berkeley. It is divided into two sections: Upper Sproul and Lower Sproul. They are vertically separated by twelve feet (3.7 m) and linked by a set of stairs.

Located here: Hub of campus activity and activism. Along with the Mario Savio Steps leading to Sproul Hall, this is the prime campus space for rallies, demonstrations, "tabling," and lunchtime speeches. Lower Sproul is a favorite spot for noontime concerts, festivals and rallies.

Sproul Plaza is the bustling hub of campus, where students meet, musicians perform, and political, religious, and social activists expound, especially at noon during the academic year. At the center of Sproul Plaza is Ludwig's Fountain, named after a favorite dog that spent most of his waking hours in and around the fountain in the 1960s.

Located here: Favorite spot for noontime concerts, festivals and rallies. Surrounded by Zellerbach Hall, Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Union, Eshleman Hall, and César E. Chávez Student Center.

Sproul Plaza is the main approach onto campus. Lined with distinctive London Plane trees, it the center of student activity at Berkeley. It has two divisions: Upper and Lower Sproul. There are a number of things you will find on Upper Sproul on school days. From tabling by student clubs to performances done by the Campus' best acappella groups.

2015年10月6日 · Created by noted landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, Sproul Plaza was designed to be a place for social interaction – a theme common to all Halprin spaces. Referencing the social unrest to come, one writer noted that Halprin “succeeded, and then some.”

Having served beyond its lifespan, the focus was to reimagine and revitalize this derelict area into a common gathering space for the entire campus and community. The new design reinvigorates the central space and celebrates its important history and legacy.
