I understand Jake Gyllenhaal came up with a whole backstory for his character. Can you talk about that? He did. Detective Loki grew up in a boys home and didn’t really have a family. He’s a prisoner of his own past with his own demons, and I wanted to create an air of mystery about him so the audience would question what his motivations are.

2013年9月29日 · There's an interview with gyllenhaal where he says the tattoos, the ring, and the facial tics are all part of the backstory he created for the character. He never publicly gave his reasoning, and says to this day that he won't. I'll try to find the article and post it.

I absolutely adore how we don’t really get to know his backstory but we understand perfectly his character traits and flaws by how he approaches the difficult case he’s assigned to.
