2008年12月9日 · Using array analysis on southern California stations we show that these body waves are generated in the ocean from distant storms and propagate deep within the Earth's mantle and core as P, PP and PKP phases. Comparisons with ocean wave hindcast data identify several distinct source regions in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

2024年9月5日 · Seismic body waves traversing the Earth's interior provide critical constraints on structures and dynamics of the Earth's deep interior, including the solid inner core (IC). The onset time of compressional waves from a seismic source passing through the IC, known as PKIKP waves, has been widely used to study the Earth's deepest shell.

2013年10月2日 · We obtain high-resolution images, complete with uncertainty estimates, of the lowermost mantle P wave velocity structure using a hand-picked data set of PKPab-df, PKPbc-df, and PcP-P differential travel times.
Probing two low-velocity regions with PKP b-caustic amplitudes …
2009年7月1日 · We find that the low-velocity regions act as waveguides, enhancing the amplitude of the PKP b-caustic diffracted waves and causing superposition of PKP b-diffractions with PKPdf. The low-velocity regions cannot be smooth layers but must show a certain degree of small-scale heterogeneity to produce the high-frequency scattering observed in the data.
Using array analysis on southern California stations we show that these body waves are generated in the ocean from distant storms and propagate deep within the Earth’s mantle and core as P, PP and PKP phases. Comparisons with ocean wave hindcast data identify several distinct source regions in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

In this paper, the authors suggest a method of determining the magnitude of teleseisms by using the amplitude and the corresponding period of PKP waves. The following formula is used for this purpose: M=log(A/T)max+σ(Δ). The calibrating function σ(Δ) is derived experimentally as well as theoretically.
short-period pPKP and PKP wave amplitudes is calculated and discussed, for the case of earthquakes generated in the SW-Pacific Ocean and recorded at the seismological stations in Central Europe.

P waves with steeper take‐off angles at the source are either reflected from the core‐mantle boundary (PcP) or refracted into the core (PKP). The refracted PKP waves have a relatively complex pattern of propagation in the core.
To avoid the influence of the inner core anisotropy in velocity, we only use the PKiKP-PKIKP and the PKPbc-PKIKP observations whose PKIKP phases sample the inner core along the equatorial paths (paths with their ray angles being larger than 35 from the Earth’s rotation axis).
