The 10,000 metres or the 10,000-metre run is a common long-distance track running event. The event is part of the athletics programme at the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships, and is common at championship-level events. The race consists of 25 laps around an Olympic-sized 400 m track.

The 10,000m is a long-distance running event that takes place on a standard 400m running track. The 10,000m is typically the longest track event at major championships, including the World Athletics Championships.

In 2022 Grant Fisher ran 26:33.84 narrowly beating Moh Ahmed, both taking home National Records and the 7th and 9th fastest 10,000m in history. The 2024 Ten saw 8 men run under 27:00 and the first sub 30:00 performance by a woman on U.S. Soil.

The official world records in the 10,000 metres are held by Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei with 26:11 minutes for men and Kenyan Beatrice Chebet with 28:54.14 for women. [1] The first world record in the men's 10,000 metres was recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1912.

2025年3月8日 · Mo Farah secured gold medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics before winning the 2018 Chicago Marathon with a European record time of 2:05:11.

It is the second most prestigious title in the discipline after the 10,000 metres at the Olympics. The competition format is a straight final with typically between twenty and thirty participants. Before 1999, the event had two qualifying heats leading to a final.
