Point of it is to keep the victim alive so that the torturer can keep doing his thing and savour every moment of it.

Feb 17, 2015 · When you start reading at chapter 1 you start at 1000. For each chapter subtract 7. At the last chapter (143) you will have finished the count down (you'll end at 994/have no more to count down).
