2006年11月1日 · The point of the thread isnt to debate which motor is better he is just wondering what the story of the 1693 is, not to say that its better than a cummins. The four and a quarter cat, is that a 1693 or a 3406? I always hear how good they were but was just wondering which model people are refering to.

2008年3月13日 · My 1693 gets better fuel mileage (4.103 avg. last month) than my 06 acert (3.628 avg.) and it pulls 10 to 16 thousand # per load more weight at 13 mph faster in the hills. Average weights grossing 105,000 to 120,000.

2011年3月5日 · 1693 is overhead cam thats y no jake brake. i would maybe go with a 400 or 425 cat. they way cheaper to work on plus they have a jake and will make better power for less fuel. nothin sounds cooler than a 1693 idling, cooler or scarier. sound like parts are loose rollin around inside, but unfortunately just not real practical in this day and age.

2007年2月23日 · Cat still offers all the parts the last time i called about some, and as far as not being able to find many motors for parts the internals of the old D343 are pretty close. This might scare you but 7 or 8 years ago I ask the local Cat dealer what it would take for them to do a major overhaul, the quote was over 32,000.

2009年1月1日 · I worked for Adams truck lines back in the 80's he had an all Cat fleet mostly 1693's and a few 3406A's the 1693's were mostly 425 hp a few were 325 hp the 425 had an after cooler the 325 did not. That engine hp rating was to the wheels not the flywheel that engine with the big turbo could be turned up to 575 hp or better to the wheels.

2012年1月4日 · yes sir! actually, googling 1693 cat is how i found this forum. i could not remember for the life of me what the number of the motor was, i knew it was not a 33 or 3406, and i was randomly putting in digits-- the actual search was 'cat 16' that found y'all. so, before even searching your site, i had read one thread and know WAY more than i did!

2018年8月20日 · I just love old machinery of any kind.Trucks,tractors,cars,engines,etc. But I could just sit and listen to a 1693 Cat idle for hours. Nothing like the sound of a pre combustion,overhead cam,turboed diesel. I still remember the sound of them idling around the truckstops,watching them pull out on the road,big puff of black smoke at every gear change.

2018年8月20日 · Appreciate the input. Your generation that knows about the likes of a 1693 are hard to find. As for the timing, I am certain I advanced it slightly. It has less pre combustion "clatter" but it does have slightly more "diesel rattle", if that makes sense. EGT's dropped about 50° and I think it smokes slightly less.
