The 175th Infantry Regiment ("Fifth Maryland" [1]) is an infantry regiment of the Maryland Army National Guard. It is one of several National Guard units with colonial roots and campaign credit for the War of 1812 .

Phase 1 – Beach landing 7 June 1944 to capture of Isigny 9 June 1944. June 7, 1944, D plus 1, the 175th Infantry landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France beginning at 1230 hours. Several of F Company’s and one of L Company’s landing craft were destroyed by under-water mines and machine gun fire as they approached the beach.

Marylanders fought each other, earning campaign honors at Manassas, Appotomax, Gettysburg and more. Later, the 29th Infantry Division would honor both sides with their yin yang blue grey symbol becoming known as the “blue and the grey”. In WWII, the 29th Infantry Division owned Omaha Beach, receiving massive casualties from the 115th and 116th.

Outnumbered five to one, the Maryland 400 defeated the British Army at the Battle of Brooklyn on August 27th, 1776, defending our nation.

The 29th consisted of three main infantry regiments - the 115th Infantry Regiment, the 116th Infantry Regiment, and the 175th Infantry Regiment. Also assigned to the division were the 110th, 111th, 224th, and 227th Field Artillery Battalions, as well as the 29th Signal Company, the 729th Ordnance Company, the
