DAC AD1865 is not manufactured anymore but I purchased them from EBay. I turned-up the DAC, play the music, rotate volume knob and NOTHING.

After some test with No oversampling DAC chip I think that the AD1865 is the best. If compared to the new technology DAC chips like AD1955 and CS4397 since to be more natural.

The No Oversampling DAC give a more natural sound but if you ear the TDA1541 and TDA1543 seem to lose details. The AD1865N-K with passive I/V give a perfect combination, natural sound and all the details.

The AD1865N-K give the better performances with a 200ohm MK132 Caddock as passive I/V. In this configuration the output signal is too low to drive any amplifier so I have design for the AD1865N-K the better output stage. This DAC use a single ended vaccum tube amplifier with output transformer and no interstage capacitors.

Circuit AD1865 is considered like best 18bit stereo audio DAC ever. It is not recommended for new constructions and probably is not manufactured now. However it is still available on EBay. Circuit has SNR 110dB and THD+N 0.003%. It requires symmetrical voltage +/-5V and it has current and voltage output.
