Introduced in 1906, the Model K moved Ford Motor Company into the high-price market -- something Henry Ford didn't like. The six-cylinder, $2,500 Model K cost five times as much as Ford's four-cylinder Model N. Production of the Model K ended in 1908 with the introduction of the Model T. Affordable cars for the mass market were Ford's future.

In 1907, the second sales year of the Model K, almost 500 examples were sold, making it the best-selling six-cylinder model in the world. As period journals reported, Ford Motor Company went in another direction, moving to one chassis, a mid-priced car, the Model T, leaving the multi-line business model used by most auto makers of the period.

The two models—the “K” 6-cylinder 40 h.p. touring car and the “N” 4-cylinder 15 h.p. runabout comprise the Ford line of 1907. The 1906 Ford Model “K” Car has given such uniformly excellent satisfaction to over three hundred owners in all parts of the country that few changes have been made in the 1907 model of the same type.

When Ford's Model N became the bestselling car in the United States, the company suspected there was a market for a more luxurious version. The Model R had a larger body, higher seats, a rounded rear deck, and wider fenders. Ford's hunch was correct. The Model R was a swift seller -- even at $150 above the 1907 Model N's $600 price.

The Model R was introduced in 1907 as an upscale alternative to the Model N that had been introduced with success the prior year. The Model R featured larger bodywork than its counterpart with revised front fenders, wider-diameter wheels, running boards, a larger seat, and a rounded and more expansive “beetle back.”

The Ford vehicle models, 'N' and 'S', seen in this piece of sales literature, were the predecessors to the Model T -- the car that changed America. Henry Ford set out to create a lightweight, inexpensive vehicle that could traverse American roads. By 1907, four years after establishing the Ford Motor Company, he was close to his goal.
