The FXR range was expanded in 1983 by the introduction of the FXRT Sport Glide, a Super Glide variant with a fairing and saddlebags, and the FXRS Low Glide, which was the FXR equivalent of the FXSB Low Rider.

Donning the now famous moniker “Shovelhead” due to the iconic (and instantly recognizable) design of its valve covers, the FXRS first appeared in 1981 (’82 models) as a planned evolution of the FLT or the “Rubber-Glide”. However, the engineers realized a whole new sportier frame was needed and the FXR was born.
