Actroid is a type of android (humanoid robot) with strong visual human-likeness developed by Osaka University and manufactured by Kokoro Company Ltd. (the animatronics division of Sanrio). It was first unveiled at the 2003 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo , Japan .

The first Actroid was launched at the 2003 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo. It has had many versions since then. The latest model is the Actroid-SIT, the most extroverted humanoid to date. Released in 2013, the Actroid-SIT can interact with humans autonomously and can follow a conversation's train of thought seamlessly.

Created by the a team led by Osaka University's Hiroshi Ishiguro, and the Kokoro Co., Ltd., they called themselves the Intelligent Robotics Lab. The Actroid was actually a DER2 Android, which explains why it has some human features. It had 47 moving points, making it one of the most notable inventions in the field of information technology.
