1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery is a regiment of the Royal Horse Artillery in the British Army. It currently serves in the armoured field artillery role, and is equipped with the AS90 self-propelled gun. The regiment is currently based at Larkhill Garrison, Larkhill.

1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery is an armoured artillery regiment. Our primary role is to provide combat support to heavy armour formations. Although a young Regiment formed in only 1938, its sub-units date back to 1793 and have deployed in all major conflicts since the Anglo-French War.

The Royal Horse Artillery, currently consists of three regiments, (1 RHA, 3 RHA and 7 RHA) and one ceremonial unit (King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery).

1st Regiment RHA, formed in 1938, provides armoured artillery support via its self-propelled guns. 3rd Regiment RHA, active since 1939, provides light artillery and joint fire support. 7th Parachute Regiment RHA, formed in 1961, specialises in airborne artillery, providing close support to 16 Air Assault Brigade.

B Battery, Royal Horse Artillery is a Close Support Battery of 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. It is currently based in Purvis Lines in Larkhill Camp. Following the French Revolution in 1789, an uneasy truce between England and France collapsed when, on 1 February 1793, Napoléon declared war on England.

The Regiment organized and ran an annual artillery live-firing exercise on the continent for seven or eight batteries with virtually unlimited ammunition and plenty of live air support. The Regiment was the first to pay its soldiers direct to their bank accounts rather than across the pay table and the first in UKLF to compete in orienteering.

N Battery (The Eagle Troop) RHA: 1st (Leslie’s) Troop Bombay Horse Artillery. N Battery was raised at Seroor on 11 Nov 1811 (11.11.11) as the 1st Troop Bombay Horse Artillery. In 1830 they were equipped with five 6-pounder guns and one 12-pounder howitzer.

1 Royal Horse Artillery served in France in 1940 before going to the N Africa in December. It moved to Italy in May 1944.

The history of 1 st RHA’s batteries on the First World War is that of the Western Front, its batteries were ubiquitous, “quo fas et gloria decunt”. Their actions took place among some of the familiar land marks of the Western front.

1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery was formed on the 1st of May 1938 by the renaming of 1st Brigade Royal Horse Artillery. They went to France in 1940, B/O Battery served with 51st (Highland) Infantry Division and saw action at St Valery where the survivors were captured.
