How to use "hr./hrs" when describing time in the 24-hour clock?
Oct 19, 2015 · For military time the 24 hour clock would use hrs for written communications as in, "The operation will begin at 1500 hrs." However, when speaking the hrs is not necessary. What is the correct way to write 1.5 hours?
Jan 31, 2015 · For partial-hour quantities other than 30 minutes, I would avoid other decimal fractions unless times are being measured in six-minute or 36-second intervals, but .5 is so idiomatic as "one half" that I would consider "1.5 hours" to be more readable than "1 hour and 30 minutes" or "1 1/2 hours", or even "1½ hours".

redundancy - What does "within 1 to 2 hours" imply - English …
Jan 25, 2017 · I may be in the minority here, but within 1 to 2 hours tells me between now and one hour, and at the most between now and two hours. Within does not refer to the range between the one and two hour mark, but to the period inside now and before one hour is over, and certainly before two hours is over.
Is it correct to say 'It takes 2 hours, 4 hours top'?
"It will take 2 hours; 4 hours tops." Note the plural—"tops", not "top." I can't comment on the evolution of the phrase, but here "tops" is indeed used to mean "maximum". It will take at least 2 hours, but no more than 4. This is indeed proper English, and is quite common. I don't object to your suggestion of "...4 hours max" (or maximum ...
singular vs plural - Is it correct to say "0 hours"? - English …
Jul 29, 2018 · @JonHanna It's not ungrammatical, but in written sentences, it's usually not idiomatic. I would say this is a fairly strong idiom; without some specific stylistic reason (like the need for clarity or precision) to include it, zero value portions of different units are omitted. (E.g., we'd do the same thing with 0 feet 5 inches or 2 cups 0 ounces.)
Scheduling a phone call: how to express my available slots
Feb 24, 2016 · There are probably many ways to write this, but my comments would be: 1. When using time references, use their time zone, not yours. Personally, if you were contacting me I would make it a point to know what time it was where you are, out of common courtesy. 2. OK, but "following week", not "next week". 3. Again use the recipients time. 4.
