British Railways Class 20 D8001 (20001) The first 20 Type 1 Bo-Bo 1000 H.P. locomotives arrived at Devons Road engine shed in the East End of London at the end of the 1950's. In the heart of Bow it was a sprawling site and became the country’s first all-diesel depot in 1958. Built as D8001, this Loco is the second of the Class built in 1957.

Currently based at the Epping & Ongar Railway the loco has recently undergone extensive restoration and an engine overhaul.

The British Rail Class 20, otherwise known as an English Electric Type 1, is a class of diesel-electric locomotive. In total, 228 locomotives in the class were built by English Electric between 1957 and 1968, the large number being in part because of the failure of other early designs in the same power range to provide reliable locomotives.

CC1 was completed at Ashford works in 1941 (renumbered 20001 by BR). At first it ran in photographic grey livery, and then repainted into malachite green livery with Southern "Sunshine" lettering and yellow lines at solebar and cantrail level.
