The 2200-series was a series of Chicago "L" cars built in 1969 and 1970 by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 150 cars were built. The last 8 2200-series cars were retired from service after their ceremonial last trips on the Blue Line on August 8, 2013.

The CTA's 2002-2006 Capital Improvement Plan included the retirement and replacement of the 2200-series cars. The 2200-series railcars had been in service for over 30 years at that point, which was well beyond their 25 year design life.

After delivery to CTA from Budd Company's Red Lion Plant in Philadelphia, prototype cars 2201-2202 were inspected and prepared for service. The cars are on the South Tail Track at Skokie Shops, signed for the yet-to-be-opened Dan Ryan Line and ready to leave the shops.

A 6-car train of 2200-series cars was made up as MTA subway cars for the filming, including (R) route logos, MTA logos, new destination signs, and new car numbers.

The 2200-series cars (numbered 2201–2350) were manufactured by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and first delivered to the CTA in 1969, before the Dan Ryan branch (now known as the south end of the Red Line) opened. 150 cars were ordered, and all delivered in 1969 and 1970. [12]
