I have Weaver Grain Train (BLMR 1034) , this to me is a pretty car and long and tall, the problem is, when it was knocked off the track an hit the concrete some 4 feet later, the trucks were in many parts, I replaced them with Lionel trucks but the car looks (to me) about a 1/4 inch taller than any other car I have.

Taking an e-unit apart to replace the fingers without removing the drum is tricky. Putting the drum back in without a special tool that isn’t cheap is something I won’t attempt again. YouTube has videos for doing it with and without the tool. I’ve resigned myself to buying complete e-units from Jeff Kane and tossing out the bad ones.

1953 (I used this to select a set to ask for for Christmas in 1955 because that was the only catalog I had). Also liked 1955, 1957 and 1959 a lot.

Lionel base and MTH cable from TIU to base will get you started. Not sure if the DCS remote can operate all the TMCC features.
