The eight-wheeled Sdkfz 263 Armored Radio Car [Panzerfunkwagen (8 Rad)] is based on the same chassis as the SDKFZ 231/232 Fu 8-Rad and Sdkfz 233 7.5cm 8-Rad. These vehicles were the successor to the Sdkfz 263 6-rad series of radio armored cars although they served along side one another at times .

Sd.Kfz. 263 (Gerat 95) was a heavy cross-country radio vehicle (“Funkspähwagen”) equipped with extra long-range radio equipment and an additional radio operator. Sdkfz 263 was based on the Sd.Kfz. 232 series. Sdkfz 263 8-rad was developed from 1934 to 1938 alongside the Sd Kfz 231 and 232 vehicles.
