No. 3 Squadron is a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) fighter squadron, headquartered at RAAF Base Williamtown, near Newcastle, New South Wales. 2022年9月6日 · One of Australia's top flying units, No.3 Squadron is now equipped with F-35 Lightning II fighter-bomber aircraft and based at Williamtown RAAF Base, NSW. There are around 200 personnel on strength at any one time, including two dozen officers (predominantly pilots). Around 85% of the personnel are uniformed and 15% civilian consultants.

2021年3月30日 · No. 3 Squadron was the first RAAF unit to leave Australia for a war zone, its 21 officers and 271 airmen, under the command of Squadron Leader I D McLachlan, sailing from Fremantle for Egypt on board the SS ORONTES on 24 July 1940.

This was one of five 3 Sqn aircraft which initiated operations against the Vichy French in Syria on June 8th 1941. Six Morane Saulnier fighters were destroyed on the ground, for no losses, during a dawn raid on Rayak airfield.
