The 30mm x 173 family includes armor-piercing and multi-purpose tactical rounds to provide enhanced accuracy, penetration and lethality necessary to defeat a spectrum of threats on the battlefield. Low cost training ammunition is also provided to support training. Already in service in NATO/USG and fully qualified in MK44 Bushmaster cannon.

It includes the NATO standardized Swiss 30×173mm (STANAG 4624), the Soviet 30×155mmB, 30×165mm and 30×210mmB, the Czechoslovak 30×210mm, the Yugoslav 30×192mm, the British 30×113mmB, and the French 30×150mmB and 30×170mm cartridges. Ammunition in 30 mm is typically not used against personnel but rather as an anti- materiel or armor-piercing round.

While the 30mmx173 was primarily designed and intended to pierce armor thus the focus on AP round design, it also has other loadings including tracers, incendiary, and explosive rounds. Since it’s introduction and use in the A-10, it has been adapted for use in ground support vehicles often referred to as light armor.
