The .338 Remington Ultra Magnum is a .338 caliber rifle cartridge introduced by Remington Arms in 2002. It is a beltless, rebated rim cartridge based on the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum [1] case shortened .090" and necked-up to accept a 0.338-inch (.338 caliber) bullet.

The .338 RUM is a well balanced cartridge ideal for hunting large bodied game at close to extended ranges. Case length of the .338 RUM is 2.760” (70.1mm), being .090” (2.3mm) shorter than the 7mm, .300 and .375 Ultra Magnums which have a case length of 2.850” (72.4mm).

Despite its outsized case, the .338 Ultra Mag is essentially the ballistic twin of the .340 Weatherby Magnum. The Ultra just burns more powder and kicks harder to achieve the same result. It is, nevertheless, a very effective cartridge.
