Locomotive No. 35028 Clan Line was built at Eastleigh Works in Hampshire and entered traffic on December 23rd, 1948 from Bournemouth shed. Thus, from the beginning, she was always a ‘British Railways’ (BR) engine and never carried the full livery, markings or numbering system of the Southern Railway.

35028 ‘Clan Line’ was built at Eastleigh Works and entered service on 23 December 1948 from Bournemouth depot. 35028 was a British Railways loco, not a Southern built one and entered service in Malachite green livery, later in 1951 being repainted into the express Blue livery.

After operating out of London for nearly 20 years, she was retired from British Rail service and bought by MNLPS (the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society) to be restored to glory.
