DEMs can be created using traditional topographic maps, modern light detection and ranging (LIDAR) data and other sources gathered by airborne and space-based instruments.

The 3DEP Bare Earth Digital Elevation Model (DEM) dynamic service allows users to explore multiple-resolutions of 3DEP data available in the National Map.
