3-4 is a good group size for a first time owner imo. The cleaning is comparable between 2 and 4 rats, you will of course need more food and have the potential for more vet bills but in my experience it isn't a huge cost jump.

2015年1月17日 · 2 rats- Pro: easier to handle, cheaper. Con: One of them will be left behind alone when the other dies. 4 rats- Pro: two pairs, nobody gets left out or left behind and easier to put them all in together at this early stage.

2019年5月11日 · As for me personally I find 2-4 rats pretty similar care wise. if I had to to say what I think my sweet spot number-wise would be I'd say 4-5 rats as that way I can have 2 or so older rats, 2-3 babies, and everyone benefits from having cagemates with different personalities around to interact with.
