Based on numeric weather prediction models, 4DWX has advanced warning capabilities for events like lightning and high winds that allow program managers to maximize test time prior to arrival. 4DWX runs continuously with cycles of 1- to 120-hour forecasts launched every three or six hours, depending on a test center’s needs.
• 4DWX provides Army test ranges with unique operational meteorological support capabilities • Rapid transition of research-grade technology achieved by – Close, ongoing collaboration between developer and user – Ongoing, iterative development – Parallel tests of prototype and current systems before operational implementation

Better forecasts, enhanced national security | NCAR & UCAR …
2021年12月21日 · Over the past quarter century of collaborations with the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC), NCAR scientists and engineers have built a completely new meteorological support infrastructure called Four-Dimensional Weather (4DWX), contributed to flagship forecasting tools, and developed techniques to predict atmospheric conditions on ...
A system known as E-4DWX, consisting of a 30-member ensemble of WRF and MM5, is run four times each day over the DPG area, using a computer system provided by the High-Performance Computing Modernization Office. This paper shows how E-4DWX can provide better operational forecast guidance for DPG test operations than any single forecast could do. 2.
Mesoscale Ensemble Weather Prediction at U.S. Army Dugway …
2017年12月1日 · This article describes E-4DWX and the innovative way in which it is calibrated, how it performs, why it was developed, and how meteorologists at DPG use it. E-4DWX has 30 operational members, each configured to produce forecasts of 48 h every 6 h on a 272-processor high performance computer (HPC) at DPG.
The Operational Mesogamma-Scale Analysis and Forecast System …
2008年4月1日 · In response to the results of this needs assessment, NCAR and ATEC collaborated on the development and implementation of a completely new meteorological support infrastructure called the Four-Dimensional Weather (4DWX) system. The 4DWX system at each test range is tailored to meet the specific needs of that range.
