2018年6月13日 · They use a 5842 or 417A to drive a 45 or 300B. The TSE is a highly regarded amp, and dead quiet. The gain is about right for the 45 and the 5842 is CCS loaded for maximum gain. Its slightly overkill for a 45. Not to mention that the tube that you really want to use is a 417a. The 5842 is the industrial equivalent of Western Electric's 417A.

2024年6月4日 · The significance of all these tubes is that they can be used to make a two stage SE triode amp. They have sufficient Gm and low Rp to deliver power into the grid of the big triode and sufficient Mu to drive a 45 or 2A3 to full output with 1 Vrms input and some will drive a 300B to full output with a 1V input.

I wired external octal sockets and output transformers into a Tubelab SE amplifier. The Tubelab SE uses a 5842 and PowerDrive to generate a very good quality drive signal capable of pushing a 300B well into clipping.

The driver stage uses a pentode in UNSET combined with a circuit I designed for squeezing maximum gain (over 1000 V/V) from a pentode in a guitar amp application to generate large drive voltages at near zero distortion.
