I do not know if all universities and colleges use the same calculations but we use the same gpa calculations that the high schools in south Carolina use.

2016年10月10日 · His 5.6 is a good GPA. The grading scale is 4.67-A+, 4.33-A, 4.0-A- for unweighted (college prep) classes. +1 for honors, +2 for AP. Nobody can have a 6.67 GPA because there are some classes that are not available as AP classes and some classes that are not available as honors classes.

2016年11月25日 · Based on comments from the guidance counselors in Naviance, there are a fair number of schools that use the school’s weighted GPA (no unweighted GPA is provided on the transcript). I don’t think this happens with schools that are on the 6.0 scale so there probably is some unfair advantage to it.

At my high school, it’s not feasible to get more than a 4.5 or so, considering that most AP’s are not available until junior/senior year. Even if you could take all AP’s every year at my school you would still only reach 5.0.

It’s possible, although pretty unusual, to get a weighted GPA over 5.0; the part that makes it tough is that some required classes (gym, music and art) are only offered as regular classes.
