2011年1月16日 · The leftmost is actually a 6CB5, the predecessor which was built in a ST glass shape. The tube uses the common octal base and has the plate brought out to a cap on the top. Being indirectly heated with 6,3V/2,5A should make it straight forward to build a hum free amplifier without the need for a DC filament supply.

2012年3月16日 · The 6CB5 is a TV sweep tube (line output) from the first generation of color TV sets in the 1950's. I had a 1957 vintage Emerson color TV that was actually built by RCA. It used a 6CB5A.

2018年5月26日 · Yes, I’ve done about a dozen single tube SE amps with 6CB5A. I think they seem to like a 1.2-1.3K cathode resistor vs the 1K which seems to want to red plate the tubes at 400V B+. It used to be a great option.

2013年2月12日 · The 6CB5A is a 1950s television sweep tube that wasn't designed specifically for audio, but the curve traces in triode mode are quite good. This cheap tube can also produce 6-8Ws in single-ended, which is pretty close to the mojo of a 300B.

2013年1月12日 · Here a small selection of 6CB5A tube boxes from various brands: The tube was made in various variations. Even tubes from the same manufacturer can differ in construction. Some have cooling fins for the screen grid, some don't. Some have the getter applied at the top and others somewhere at the side. The plates can have various shapes.

2013年4月11日 · However, after reading several threads on diyaudio.com, I came across Thomas Mayer's blog describing the use of the 6CB5A - a TV vertical deflector tube - in single-ended mode to make 7Ws. He touted it as a budget alternative to the 300B, and at ~$5 to $6 a pop on Ebay, it certainly would cut down on the output tube cost.

2013年7月6日 · It's good in the 1st gain block of a phono preamp and it's good at higher signal levels too. Poindexter used matched 6GK5s in the most recent iteration of his "Musical Machine". Hi! I would leave the 6GK5 for lower signal levels. For a driver it is not a good choice. It would leave zero headroom and is also not very linear.
