6L6 is the designator for a beam power tube introduced by Radio Corporation of America in April 1936 and marketed for application as a power amplifier for audio frequencies.

In Europe it were the pentodes AL5 (4Vf) and EL5 (6.3Vf), in the USA it was the worlds first and most famous beam-power-tetrode, the 6L6. First it appeared as metal tube, then in several glass versions, e.g. as 6L6GC with 35 watts dissipation.

The 807 was based on the RCA type 6L6 beam tetrode, which had a long, fairly thin, anode and a carefully-aligned grid structure. The 6L6 employed rapidly-accelerated electrons and short electron paths.
