In Europe it were the pentodes AL5 (4Vf) and EL5 (6.3Vf), in the USA it was the worlds first and most famous beam-power-tetrode, the 6L6. First it appeared as metal tube, then in several glass versions, e.g. as 6L6GC with 35 watts dissipation.

The 6L6 is a beam-tetrode in a metal enclosure, developed in the mid-1930s by RCA for use in (audio) power amplifiers. It is believed to be the first true aligned-grid beam tetrode to have become available commercially in 1935. The design of the beam tetrode circumvents certain Philips power pentode patents .

The 6L6 (P/N 154-087, 154-0087-00) is a beam power pentode vacuum tube ("kink-less tetrode") for power amplifier applications. It has an octal base . There are several variants including the direct successor, the 6L6GC . Similar European types include the KT-66 (~6L6GC, beam power) and EL37 (true pentode).
