2019年1月25日 · I find the use of CCS extremely effective, but a bit fussy. I've selected an operating point of 235v and 2.5ma. with the CCS on top (load resistor substitute), i need a trim pot on the cathode resistor to tune in the desired plate voltage. It works very well, but pop in a different tube and it will need an adjustment every time.

It is the tube version of the MOSFET ccs as described by Gary Pimm. IMO, fewer stages sound bettre than many. The PS also achieves its voltage output resistively.

I listened for a long time for differences between the sound of CCS-ed 6C45Pi-E and various 6SN7. In short – 6SN7 isn`t agressive, 6C45Pi is «focused» on high-mid / high frequencies. 6SN7 is «sweeter» and (with better samples) has «larger» sound. Bass and highs are a little soft and «rounded», 6C45Pi has more «punch» here.

2023年3月6日 · Using a 27k Ohm cathode resistor, or using a CCS (constant current sink) in the cathode follower will not significantly change the output impedance of the preamp. Using a CCS Will reduce the distortion a little bit if you only load the preamp with a 1 Meg Ohm scope probe.

The solution was the two-resistor voltage divider (made up from the 1M and 10k resistors in series), which gave the input stage's CCS more voltage headroom. Well, what if the input tube was a 12AU7 (or some other medium-mu twin triode, such as the 6CG7, 6SN7, ECC99, or 5687)?
