Verse 37. - Now on the last day, the great day of the feast. A question arises - Was the last day the seventh or the eighth day? and why was it called the great day?

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.

Jesus chooses the last and greatest day of the feast to make His proclamation, highlighting the culmination of God's promises and the fulfillment found in Him. Just as physical thirst indicates a need for water, spiritual thirst points to our need for a relationship with God. Jesus offers Himself as the solution to this deep-seated need.

What does John 7:37 mean? Jesus is in Jerusalem during the Feast of Booths, also known as the Festival of Tabernacles. During this week-long celebration, Israel remembered the intervention of God during their wandering in the wilderness.

The express designation of the day as τῇ μεγάλῃ is in keeping with the solemn coming forth of Jesus with the great word of invitation and promise, John 7:37-38. The solemnity of this coming forth is also intimated in εἱστήκει (He stood there) and in ἔκραξε (see on John 7:28).

2016年3月16日 · Jesus brought the feast to a fitting climax by offering to satisfy all who, in their spiritual need, came to him for help. He would work a life-giving change within them. After returning to his Father, he would send the Holy Spirit to dwell within all who believed in him (John 7:37-39). The people’s reaction to this teaching was mixed.
