Chai-1 is a multi-modal foundation model for molecular structure prediction that performs at the state-of-the-art across a variety of benchmarks. Chai-1 enables unified prediction of proteins, small molecules, DNA, RNA, glycosylations, and more.

We introduce Chai-1, a multi-modal foundation model for molecular structure prediction that performs at the state-of-the-art across a variety of tasks relevant to drug discovery. Chai-1 can optionally be prompted with experimental restraints (e.g. derived from wet-lab data) which boosts performance by double-digit percentage points.

CHAI will aim to develop a fully explainable causal AI platform specifically addressing unique challenges from healthcare across prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Our belief is that to move AI forward, we need to build models incorporating both theory and observation.

Chai-1 uses a Transformer-based neural network trained on large biological datasets. It takes biomolecular sequences as input and first encodes them into numerical representations, using additional data sources such as MSAs and language model embeddings to help identify evolutionary patterns and provide residue-level context.
