Jan 27, 2024 · HGTV was especially bad - a show airing on HGTV at 8/7c might air at 6 pm MT or it might air at 7 pm MT. That said, MT is a lovely time zone for watching (American) football. I'm now back in the Eastern time zone and the games run so late.

So it's conveying that the TV show will come on at the same time in those time zones, but the time on the clock is different because of the different time zones.

Aug 7, 2011 · It means that whatever show mentioned starts at 8 p.m. in both Eastern and Pacific time zones. This goes back to the "when prime time starts" thing. The reason, I believe, that the Central time zone has its prime time starting at 7 while the Eastern starts at 8 is from when broadcasts predated cable television.

Feb 3, 2023 · They usually will play it at 8. So the same time as on the east coast, therefore it's delayed 3 hours. Primetime is like 8-11 so if they played it simultaneously on the west coast that'd be 5 PM, most people are not home from work, haven't had dinner yet, aren't ready to settle into to watching a TV show, thus defeating the purpose of primetime.
