The driver is an onerous implementation of the 46 (triode-strapped) in filament bias with a FET gyrator load in mu-follower mode to deliver sufficient current and low output impedance to handle A2 needs.

2014年11月16日 · Having tested the 814 in triode mode, I will proceed now to upgrade my 4-65a SE amplifier and replace output valve for the 814. To ensure it can withstand the 540V in the anode, the remaining grids are all tied together through a resistor to the anode.

2021年4月7日 · The 814 pentode in triode mode has approx. 2K plate resistance and 4 mA/V mutual conductance. Run at 400V/45-50mA with 5K transformer you should get 4W easy in class A1 with low distortion. Only 33-35V peak driving voltage for full output.

If you remember, I implemented the 46 with filament bias (yes crazy I know) to drive the 814 SE amplifier. Sounded amazing and I think alongside the 45, is one of my preferred DHTs. I have the plan to get the 46 back into my 300B. At the moment …

2022年4月13日 · Maybe look around at others that have built 814 SE amplifiers. A few exist. Fairly straightforward once you have chosen an operating point and have an appropriate output transformer. I had an 814 amplifier for a while. One of my 814s died most likely because I had carried it around since I was a kid.

2003年11月2日 · GM70's are a great sort-of-845 class tube, but there is the issue of non-availability of sockets. Because the 813T and GM70 have higher mu, you need less drive voltage for them than an 845, so it's easier to design a good sounding driver. If you don't need the power, don't stuff around with the really high V designs, and keep it simple and sweet.
