2021年12月2日 · The GTI is not faster 0-60 anymore. Car and Driver recently tested this. They got 0-60 in 5.4 seconds for both the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 and 5.7 second for the GTI. The quarter miles times were nearly tied at 14.0 secs for the twins and 14.2 for the GTI.

But an 86 I feel is much more substantial than the mx5 and with the back seats down has a pretty sizeable trunk the GTI is damn fast with tune, handles well with my coils and beefed up rear swaybar, but yea I guess I want more of a "race car" feel even if my GTI would destroy the 86 in an actual race. I am single, no kids so no real worry there.

2023年9月28日 · For one the GTI is a lot more playful around corners and overall just driving on the streets it also feels faster but that might just be the turbo speaking. It doesn't attract as much attention as my GR86 did that's not a big deal (I sorta see it as a good thing) it still attracts some attention but not nearly as much.

2022年2月9日 · For me the GTI in regular driving is good for those short 5 second bursts of boost but that’s it. Versus something like the 86 where you get to wring it out to actually use the power, plus the connectedness of the experience is much higher. However from a commuter standpoint, the GTI is a nicer place to have to spend a lot of time.

Edit: almost forgot, the 86 is a cracking car. The GTI is good too but VW seems to have lost their way reliability-wise and also if you want a 86, a GTI misses the point by a big margin. If you haven't, drive both and see.

2018年6月28日 · IMO the GTI is the car people buy because the spreadsheet they put together for what they are looking for told them to buy it. i'm not saying it is a bad car by any means but there is no visceral passion that leads people to the GTI. I was cross shopping the GTI, Focus ST, and 86 at a time where i already owned a hot hatch (volvo c30-r).

2022年5月8日 · I sold the GTi with speed and efficiency. The 86 is used and haven’t had any problems so far love the steering feel and handling is miles over the GTI. The fuel efficiency is almost the same but that’s different for everyone as per lifestyle. The space is something I miss but there is just a charm about the 86 I can’t shake.. it’s weird ...

2022年5月19日 · If you have a second car, the 86 is the choice, but if you only can have one car, make sure you can live with the limitations. I almost pulled the trigger on a MK8, but I found the Rabbit GTI to be a more refined package. I was also concerned with first-year problems, even if the MK8 is only an iterative upgrade.
