The 87th Flying Training Squadron is part of the United States Air Force 47th Flying Training Wing based at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. It operates T-38 Talon aircraft conducting flight training.

The 87th was redesignated the 87th Flying Training Squadron and activated on 2 April 1990 at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, flying the T-38A Talon advanced supersonic trainer. The squadron now flies the T-38C.

With a mission committed to developing the world’s best military pilots and mission-ready warriors, the 87 FTS has upheld its duty by maintaining a class size of 9 students, while graduating approximately 115 pilots over the last year.
