In many universities, 4.0 represents the maximum possible GPA, and so an A+, although it may appear on the transcript next to a course, also only contributes 4.0 to one's GPA. At other universities (such as e.g. Columbia), an A+ contributes 4.3 to one's GPA. None of this matters very much of course.

If your undergrad school awards more GPA points for A+ rather than As then you should definitely try to get A+. As a matter of fact, you should always be trying to do your very best anyways. But for a top program this will be especially important.

A GPA of 3.0 is (usually) exactly a B, which is coincidentally 3.0 in German Grade. Note that this is an estimate. Also, the correct way to calculate it would be not to convert the GPA directly, but to go through the transcript and re-compute the average using the German Grade.

2019年1月21日 · @David 40% is not "a legitimate possibility". It's not even a coin toss. It's a chance of 2 in 5 to have a minor improvement to one of your grades. An A is already considered a 4.00 GPA, an A+ won't meaningfully improve that. –
