The collars are connected by "quick release couplings" The material specified for the collar is A36.Most of the forging vendors do forging with A105. My question is-which is a superior material for this work A105 or A36.?

Aug 7, 2002 · A105 is a forged carbon steel, it's like C22.8 except some slight difference in chemical composition especially with Carbon. In absence of an european equivalent grade, I assimilite it to C22.8. According to our experience C22.8 can be equivalent to LF2 also (contrary to A105; A105 can work down to -20°F(-29°C) and LF2 to -50°F(-46°C)).

Jul 3, 2015 · A105 & A694 are both forging material. A105 is CS forgings, A694 is carbon and alloy steel forgings. A106 is for seamless CS pipe. Is Impact testing required for ASTM A105 special forging?
May 16, 2008 · I'm working on a carbon steel vessel with MDMT of -24degree C, the shell material is ASTM A516 Gr70 and the forgings/flanges are A105. I understand ASME B16.5 flanges are excepted from impact testing up to -29degree C. I've got a heavy neck forging of 152.4mm thk welded into the 35mm thk plate.

Nov 27, 2001 · ASTM A105 and A216-WCB (or their ASME SA equivalents) are two different product forms. A/SA105 is a forged material specification while A/SA216-WCB is a cast material specification. The chemical composition for each material is essentially the same (low carbon steel) but there may be some very minor differences in exact ranges of minor elements.

Jun 1, 2021 · Nace MR0175 provides exception to use ASTM A105 in place of A105N by para A2.1.3(a) provided hardness doesn’t exceed 187 Brinell Hardness. Check the MTRs to verify this. Next, check the hardness for the weld joint. There are limits set by NACE MR0175. Even though the exception is provided by NACE, many owners still wants A105N.
