The first V2500 engined A320 was delivered to Adria Airways in May 1989. The initial production version was the A320-100, which was built in only small numbers before being replaced by the definitive A320-200 (certificated in November 1988) with increased max takeoff weight, greater range and winglets.

2008年12月29日 · On the A320-100 the Max Zero fuel weight was always a problem. We had 150 seats, and if the plane was full, we could not carry 150 pieces of baggage before we got to MZFW. Then we loaded 9 tonnes of fuel, but were around 4 tonnes away from the MTOW. The A320-200 with 150 seats does not have this problem as the MZFW is higher.

Take off weight was not a problem for the 2 hr flight, but offloading bags happened. Our aircraft also had a fwd airstair at L1, and had old fashioned recirculating toilets, no vacuum system.

The basic A321-100 features a reduction in range compared to the A320 as extra fuel tankage was not added to the initial design to compensate for the extra weight. To overcome this Airbus launched the longer range, heavier A321-200 development in 1995 which has a full pax transcontinental US range.

The second 1 stands for CFM engines, the last 1 for the exact engine type. Then came the A320-211, an A320-200, which means winglets and a higher mtow than the A320-100.
