2004年2月16日 · Wow, those are more than annoyances!! The A4LD is the single worst transmission out there. They are notorious for failing well before 100,000 miles even with proper maintenance. It sounds to me like you're having valve body problems. The first place to start would be with a proper tranny flush, filter replacement, and new fluid.

2007年9月27日 · [UPDATED] 94 explorer A4LD problems Heres the trouble i'm having. Transmission won't shift from 1st to 2nd unless i rev it up, let off the throttle, then give it throttle again. That gets me to second. Sometimes it'll work on its own for 2nd to 3rd, but sometimes it will shift itself. Doesn't ever shift itself from 1st to second.

2003年2月8日 · Although this particular article was not written for or about the A4LD, the trannie referenced is a kissing cousin of a transmission (in a way) and was written by a FORD engineer. 2013年11月3日 · Personally, I wouldn't want a manual trans, I'd rather rebuild an A4LD before swapping a manual trans in. To each their own though. Being yours is an Aerostar, it's probably a better candidate for a manual as long as you're easy on the clutch. I wouldn't want to stuff a used A4LD or hope I rebuilt an A4LD properly into an Aerostar.

2006年3月30日 · Yeah! I have a transmission now that works albeit in the wrong vehicle. Got a beautiful set of factory wheels out of the deal, too all for a bit less than a used transmission (with a warranty) would have cost. I will do a photo diary of the A4LD removal and installation process as I have not yet seen that done on this list.

2013年11月11日 · Probably not. I agree with the post above, probably sticking governor since it is affecting more than just 1-2 and 2-1 shifts. The reverse clunk is pretty common on A4LD's but it is discussed in some of the old threads here. As I recall it has to do with pressures and low/reverse servo. Some of the rebuild kits address this I think.
