2017年8月19日 · Both moves (a5 and b5) share the same idea: gaining space on the queenside, with tempo. The move a5 doesn't attack anything but threatens to trap the bishop. The move b5 has a deep tactical refutation involving a (temporary) queen sacrifice:
Chess Opening Theory/1. e4/1...a5 - Wikibooks
2023年11月18日 · The Corn Stalk Defence, also known as the Ware Defence or Corn Stalks, is a rare chess opening with the moves: 1. e4 a5?! 2025年1月5日 · The reason I prefer a5 over axb5 is that my next move is going to be Bb6 attacking the rook on d8 followed by Qxb5 and then I will have connected passed pawns and have the extra pawn. Probably black's best response is to sacrifice the exchange for a pawn with RxB followed by Qxb6+ with tempo.
