The Bell AH-1 Cobra is a single-engined attack helicopter developed and manufactured by the American rotorcraft manufacturer Bell Helicopter. A member of the prolific Huey family, the AH-1 is also referred to as the HueyCobra or Snake.

It first flew in 1965, and the Army ordered 110 helicopters, which they designated the AH-1G. The first Cobras arrived in Vietnam on August 31, 1967. Four days later a Cobra scored its first combat victory. The AH-1G was later modified to an AH-1S that replaced the original engine with the current version and an upgraded dynamic system.

2022年8月14日 · The Step 3/AH-1F was the last variant employed by the US Army. The AH-64 Apache entered production in 1982, and by the 1990s, enough were in service to retire the AH-1 completely. Japan picked up the Step 3 AH-1S model in 1984, with slight modifications - mainly a different, locally produced engine.

2014年8月26日 · Here's the original turbine exhaust. And here's the JSDF AH-1S exhaust, notice how it looks shorter and barely peeks out from the fuselage. And from other photos the same applies to all other AH-1S used by the Kisarazu Base. I'll need to ponder how to tackle this.
