2018年2月13日 · After extensive comparisons with the new models (especially the XL II, which looks like what AKG replaced the EB line with, since it's tuned nearly exactly the same way), I realized that the modern mic is better in every way.

The AKG C414 EB, the second generation and most sought-after of the 414 series, introduced a second pad position (-20dB) and 3 high-pass filter options. The original capsule in the C414 EB was the "Brass" CK12, as used in the AKG C 12 and Telefunken ELA M 251 microphones.

We must start this journey by looking at AKG's legendary C12. A microphone of quite simple design, early examples were based around the 12AY7 high-mu double triode, together with the large V2148 output matching transformer. This combination along with the excellent CK12 "Brass" capsule, enabled this design to work so well.

Four different AKG C414 microphones are compared side by side by recording the same track with each. The different versions of the C414 microphones, including the C414EB with the CK-12 capsule and the C414 B-ULS, are tested on different instruments and vocals.

In response to the emergence of 3-pin XLR-type connectors as the world stan-dard, AKG introduces the C 414 EB with this connector integrated into the micro-phone. The integral connector elimi-nates the need for the cable module so the microphone can be easily used with different cables to meet application requirements.

The 414 EB replaced the original C 414, changing the original CK12 capsule from Brass to Nylon and adding a 3-position attenuation switch (0,-10,-20 dB) and 3-position bass roll-off switch offering flat, 75 and 150 Hz settings with a 12 dB/octave slope. The XLR connector is now integrated into the all-metal housing of the microphone.
