The AMC AMX/3 (alternate spelling: AMX III) is a mid-engine sports car produced by the American carmaker American Motors Corporation (AMC), which was presented to the Italian press in March 1970 and was to be produced in Germany by Karmann starting in 1971.

The project was called AMX/K and it convinced AMC management of the idea to actually build a mid-engined sports car, the AMX/3. March 1968, Meyers and Teague went to the Geneva Motor Show to meet Giorgetto Giugiaro and to ask him for a proposal.

The AMX/3 was released to the US press on April 4th, 1970, at the Waldorf in New York and the fiberglass mockup was presented at the April 5th New York auto show. Dick Teague purchased it from AMC in 1978 along with Car #5 and Car #1.
