Zwicky's Triplet (Arp 103 [3]) is a group of three galaxies visible in the constellation Hercules. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] None of the galaxies is listed in the New General Catalogue (NGC) or Index Catalogue (IC), but all three are identified in the Catalogue of Principal Galaxies (PGC) published in 1989.

Arp 103 is also known as Zwicky's Connected Multiple System or Zwicky's Triplet depending on who you read. It consists of three galaxies. They have many different designations, none all that common.

The members of this nice galaxy trio are from left to right UGC 10586, NGC 6241 and Arp 103. Arp 103 for itself also contents a galaxy trio again ... that is known as Zwickys Triplet. There are not so many images on Astrobin showing this triplet.

2009年3月22日 · According to my old edition of Uranometria 2000.0, Zwicky's triplet is the northernmost galaxies, PGC 59062, MCG+8-31-3, MCG+8-31-3A or Arp 103. As to just why it is called Zwicky's Triplet, well I don't know. I must admit, when I saw the name, I thought of II Zw 99 in Aquarius instead.
