From Virginia Beach , Arp 252 is visible between 20:40 and 02:00. It will become accessible at around 20:40, when it rises to an altitude of 21° above your south-eastern horizon. It will reach its highest point in the sky at 23:20, 33° above your southern horizon.

Arp 147, an interacting pair of ring galaxies. The Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies is a catalog of peculiar galaxies produced by Halton Arp in 1966. A total of 338 galaxies are presented in the atlas, which was originally published in 1966 by the California Institute of Technology.

This object is an interacting galaxy pair located about a half billion light years away in the constellation of Hydra at a declination of -20 degrees. The top galaxy is ESO 566-8 and the bottom galaxy is ESO 566-7.

This pair is also known as Arp 252. The MCG designation is from the Morphologicheskii Katalog Galaktik (Morphological Catalog of Galaxies) by B.A. Vorontsov-Valyaminov and coworkers.

2007年11月12日 · The 338 Arp fields range from familiar bright galaxies like M51 down to faint 17th magnitude nearly-anonymous fleaspecks. Few starcharts or observing guides reference the Arp number, so to find most Arps, the observer must start with a reference that relates more commonly used galaxy names to the Arp number.

Halton Arp's "Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies" was meant to provide examples of various types of galaxies as a guide for study of the origin and evolution of galaxies, at a time (the mid-1960's) when astronomers had little idea what that involved.

Arp 252 gets its name from a catalog of peculiar and interacting galaxies, put together by astronomer Halton C. Arp, that helped draw attention to these unusually shaped galaxies.
