The Activated Sludge Process (ASP) is a sewage treatment process in which air or oxygen is blown into raw, unsettled sewage to smash the solids and develop a biological 'soup' which digests the organic content and pollutants in the sewage.

The site, built circa 1974, is a five lane Activated Sludge Plant (ASP) operated in a conventional anoxic/aerobic configuration, with the anoxic fraction comprising 7% of the total volume. The works currently has a 20:30:5-10 (BOD/SS/AMM) consent.

MMI was appointed by a UK water company, which was constructing two new ASP lanes as part of an improvements scheme, to assess the anoxic zones using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

2023年8月31日 · The activated sludge treatment tank consists of four ASP lanes. Each ASP lane has a selector tank followed by an anoxic zone and then the three aerobic zones. The main aeration lane will be fitted with aeration pipework and fine bubble diffusers. The aeration vessel is 80m long and 6.1m wide with a water depth of 7.05m.

2021年10月1日 · Ammonia, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are the most commonly measure parameters in all ASP lanes. Ammonia is a key parameter in wastewater that has a reduction and compliance limit. Ammonia is removed during the ASP by autotrophic bacteria completing biological nitrification.

2016年7月1日 · As the large buried pipework sub-contractor, we were part of the team modernising the Oldham site which included installing 900mm ductile iron pipework into the ASP (activated sludge plant) distribution chamber. The pipes were to drain the ASP lanes into the final settlement tanks.
