U-87 MG can be obtained from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) where it is known by the accession number HTB-14 and it is reported that the cell line comes from a male patient of unknown age.
Excellent signal/background ratio and stable Luciferase expression make this cell line ideal for in vivo bioluminescence imaging of xenograft animal model to study human cancer and monitor activity of anti-cancer drug. Problematic cell line: Misidentified. This cell line is not the original glioblastoma cell line established in 1968 at the University of Uppsala.
